E-mail Print PDF

MEDIA RELEASE

SUBJECT       :           JIMMY MANYI MUST BE FIRED FOR HIS RACISM

ISSUED BY : Adv. Anton Alberts

CAPACITY : FF Plus Parliamentary Spokesperson: Labour

DATE : 25 February 2011

The FF Plus demands that Jimmy Manyi, the former director general of the department of Labour and presently the Cabinet’s spokesperson, is fired immediately. During an interview last year with Freek Robinson in the KykNet program, Robinson Regstreeks, Manyi said that it is a problem that so many Brown people live in the Western Cape and that they should rather be dispersed throughout the country.

According to Adv. Anton Alberts, FF Plus Parliamentary spokesperson on Labour, these comments by Manyi are nothing other than social engineering and racist in nature. “Would Manyi have the courage of his conviction to tell president Zuma that his people – the Zulus – should be dispersed throughout South Africa and that they should leave their home, i.e. the kingdom of Zululand behind and give it up? I don’t think so. Why does Mr. Manyi focus on the Brown community then? Precisely because he sees them as a minority with no value. It is clear that he does not have any respect for culture and the bond it has with land. The Brown community is traditionally tied to the land of the Western Cape and nobody has the right to remove them there,” Alberts added.

These racist comments are merely one of the many mistakes that Manyi has made in recent times. The FF Plus therefore calls on president Zuma to fire Manyi from the public service for once and for all time.
