Chubb Security Develops Device To Combat Roof Break-Ins

E-mail Print PDF
Roof Break-InJohannesburg, South Africa, 31 March 2009 - With roof break-ins increasing, Chubb Security has developed a new device that expands and reinforces the communication between a client's alarm system and the company's monitoring centre, in case other lines of communication are lost.

The Bandit Box, a GPRS-based unit, uses a cellular network to transmit all alarm activity to a Chubb monitoring centre.  The Bandit Box is unrecognisable to both company staff and intruders. Sensors on the control panel signal the Chubb monitoring centre in the event of vandalisation or tampering.

Mike Hodgson, sales director of Chubb Integrated Systems, a division of Chubb Security South Africa, recommends clients also install a passive detector in the roof void above the alarm panel for intruders gaining access via the roof.

"Not only will an intruder above the panel trigger an alarm, but the alarm will increase the number of zone signals that it sends to the monitoring centre," Hodgson says.

Not only can you install the device during a normal service call of approximately two hours, but the Bandit Box will save a client Telkom line rental and call costs - in some cases as much as R500 per month.

A minimal set fee is added to the client's existing Chubb monitoring and response fee to cover the GPRS operational cost.
