A Hekpoort pensioner has been beaten to death with his walking stick and the chain he used to secure the door to his home, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.Inspector Pogiso Khambula said a 16-year-old the youth apparently hit the 73-year-old man on his head with the walking stick at least five times before using the chain to beat him.
He then stripped the man naked, dragged his body outside and allegedly tried to throw it into a pit latrine.
"The guy was a bit heavy and only the upper body could go in," he said.
Khambula said the youth accused of the attack had since appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court. The case was postponed, but the new date was not immediately known.
Another three men were scheduled to appear in the same court on Thursday for a separate beating in Hekpoort, he said.
They were accused of beating a 31-year-old man unconscious, then dragging him to a disused railway station where they left him for dead on a train track, said Khambula.
The man was found by a passer-by who called the police and paramedics. He spent four weeks recovering in hospital before opening a case against his assailants, who were known to him.
It was not known why they beat him up. The 19-year-olds were arrested in Hekpoort on Tuesday.
