Johannesburg - Thirty three people were injured, seven seriously, when three minibus taxis collided on the R511 in Glen Fernes on Sunday, Johannesburg paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said it is believed that the taxis were travelling in the same direction when they collided.
"All the vehicles came to rest in the middle of the road and the passengers were found seated and lying nearby."
Paramedics had to call emergency service personnel from other areas to assist with the injured, he said.
"Those seriously injured passengers had sustained suspected head and spinal trauma, as well as suspected fractures.
"All were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to the Helen Joseph Hospital," Wicks said.
