Being outspoken has always been part of the ANC Youth League's tradition, ruling party president Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.Addressing guests at the ANC's Pre-Opening of Parliament dinner in Cape Town, Zuma said the history of the ruling party showed that the ANCYL had always been the most vocal wing of the organisation.
"It has always been militant than the mother body - it has always given the ANC that energy that it needed to take the national revolution forward," he said.
Former ANC President Nelson Mandela, who at one point was a leader of the ANCYL, was part of a crop of leaders who propelled the organisation to greater heights.
"{Today} masses are proud to be associated with the ANC - it is wonderful to belong to the ANC," Zuma said.
On President Kgalema Motlanthe who is due to deliver the State of Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, Zuma said the ANC Deputy President was a unifier who should be given credit for uniting the country following former President Thabo Mbeki's recall.
"He had led the country and held the nation together during a difficult time," he said.
