Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, who becomes Cope spokesman on Monday, has resigned from his job at Altron, the telecommunications and information technology firm said.
"Tabane is leaving Altron to pursue his passion for political communications as chief information officer and head of communications for the newly formed Congress of the People (Cope)," the company said in a statement on Monday.
Tabane was corporate affairs executive at Altron. His resignation was effective from November 30.
Since joining Altron last November, Tabane served as chair of the Altron group transformation committee. He was tasked with steering the group's transformation and BBBEE programme, among other responsibilities.
Said Altron chief executive Robert Venter: "[W]e believe in the growth and development of our people even when they move away from the company to contribute in other ways to society, and we will be following his future career with interest."
Tabane said joining Cope was "a calling one could not ignore".
