Youth Alliance Calls For Arrest Of 'Political Conspirators'

Young Communist League SAThose involved in the "political conspiracy" against ANC president Jacob Zuma must be arrested, the Progressive Youth Alliance said on Thursday.

"We call for the arrest of 'the big man in Shell House', Bulelani Ngcuka, Leonard McCarthy, Sam, Brigitte Mabandla former Justice Minister, Mzi Khumalo and everyone who is implicated in this case," Young Communist League secretary Buti Manamela said.

The alliance had no doubt the "big man in Shell House" was former president Thabo Mbeki and believed "Sam" was Congress of the People first deputy president Mbhazima Sam Shilowa, he said.

Manamela was addressing the media in Johannesburg on the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) decision to drop charges against Zuma.

Speaking at the same event, SA Students' Congress leader Mawethu Rune said: "In our minds it was always clear he [Mbeki] was the kingpin marshalling other stootjies (sic) to do the dirty work for him."

Mbeki has consistently denied any conspiracy against Zuma, either by himself or his executive.

The alliance believed the tapes used as "evidence of the political conspiracy" against Zuma were merely the "tip of the iceberg".

It also wanted the "cleaning up" of the NPA and all the "forces involved in the conspiracy".

"JZ [Zuma] can go on and talk about peace, that's his own view, that's his own view... our view is that justice must take its cause," Manamela said.

The alliance comprises the Young Communist League of SA, SA Students' Congress, the Congress of SA Students, Student Union Christian Action, the SA Football Players' Union, and Young Christian Students.
