A fake pamphlet claiming the DA wants to bring back the days of permits to fight the "Swart Gevaar" is being distributed on the internet, the party said on Wednesday.
Democratic Alliance spokesman Ashleigh Trichardt said the pamphlet, which ends with warning, "Do not show this pamphlet to your maids and garden boys... we need their votes", is targeting black voters to convince them not to vote for the party in the upcoming elections.
"It is obviously a fake," Trichardt said.
"It includes the old DA logo, and it is riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, including the particularly ridiculous 'Een drag maak maag' -- which translates to 'In unity, there is stomach'."
The party said it first became aware that the pamphlet was being distributed in the Steve Tshwete Municipality. The pamphlet had since made its way onto the internet.
"The Electoral Act prohibits persons from 'impersonating' other parties and/or candidates and prohibits the distribution of false information," Trichardt said.
