E-mail Print PDF
Pointing GunA Durban man was shot when he attempted to help his neighbour during an armed robbery in Durban's Umbilo, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Inspector Michael Read said 30-year-old Shaun Coetzee was rushed to hospital after being shot in the chest.

He is reportedly in a stable condition.

On Thursday night, his neighbour 72-year-old Martha Smalburger was confronted by three men inside her home.

One had a firearm.

Smalburger's domestic worker managed to run next door and inform Coetzee.

Coetzee marched up to the home and as he entered was shot at.

The robbers immediately fled the scene, taking nothing with them.

No other injuries were reported.

Smalburger had apparently opened the security gate to let her dogs out when the gang entered.

Read said the case was being investigated but that no arrests were made.
