All tap water in South Africa is safe to drink, even though at times it doesn't meet technical standards, Water Affairs and Forestry Minister Lindiwe Hendricks said on Monday.Speaking at the launch of Water Week in Johannesburg, Hendricks said of the 300 samples taken nationwide, about 98 percent complied with the South African National Standards of drinking water.
The quality of water at the remaining municipalities varied, she said.
"In some areas, this may be due to a stolen or broken water pump."
She added that South African tap water was ranked among the best in the world because the country had similar water service systems as developed countries.
